The above cross stitch pattern originated from Chinese traditional craft art: paper art. The figure, a baby boy named Ne Zha (哪吒) is traditional supernatural being in fairy tale. In order to protect people, Ne Zha suicided himself and raised again from lotus skeleton. He is often a figure in cartoon series. Almost every Chinese know its name and story.
